For the Fall 2017 Issue, Auxiliary’s Beauty Editor Elizabeth Rhodes collaborated with photographer Saryn Christina and fellow makeup artist Akiko Yamakawa to shoot both the Beauty Picks and Runway to Vanity features in one shoot. Our models were Darija Varnas for Runway to Vanity and Elena Tretyakova for Beauty Picks. Here is a peek behind the scenes!
Akiko’s focus for this issue’s Runway to Vanity was a 1920s vamp vibe modernized with bright color and glitter in a halo effect. We pulled inspiration from Moschino’s Resort 2018 runway makeup and Coach’s Resort 2017 side-swept bang to create this mash-up look. Yamakawa used bright color instead of the period-appropriate dark sooty tones to add a playful and fresh take on this moody look.
For the Beauty Picks feature the focus was on bold pops of color in unexpected places on the face with an ombre/gradient lip. For this issue the products used were from NYX and MAC Cosmetics.
Creating a glossy eye finished the eye and created a fun texture to create an otherworldly vibe to the overall look. Elena’s skin was perfected with sheer foundation and glowy cheeks to balance the look.
