Toronto based Austra’s official video for “Painful Like”, from their album Olympia is a fun and a gross throw back to low budget sci-fi from the 90s. Using cheap FX, such as found objects, homemade masks, and reflective tape the narrative comes across as cheesy but serious. The song itself, a brilliantly beautiful electronic beat utilizing Katie Stelmanis’s spell binding voice sort of legitimizes the cyber monsters on rollerblades and stark lighting, lending an urgency to the overall story. Currently touring Europe, Austra will be returning to North America this fall.
