Her works are statement pieces that have a certain edgy style to them that was desperately lacking in the city. The Night Collar is a unisex piece, so guys or gals can express their darker side and adding a statement piece like Sonia’s will definitely grab some attention. Skulls and leather and chain, spikes and studs. The COVEN brand has something for everyone.

We Are RadaR is closing! So sad! Another great brick and mortar gone. Today is their last day open and they are having a huge sale! So if you’re in the Toronto area, stop in before the chance is gone forever. Pick up some great clothes and accessories and pick up a copy of Auxiliary while you’re there. They have our current issue and many back issues in stock.
Plastik Wrap, the clothing line from the owners of We Are Radar is still alive and strong. They are just closing their physical store front. But it is still sad news for a scene that needs a better sense of community, not a lessening one. Brick and mortars, club nights, festivals, and other places you can see people face to face are what started the goth/industrial scene (and all its offshoots) and the internet cannot replace that.
So go out and support We Are Radar today if you’re near Toronto! And make sure you support the brick and mortars in your area.

For a quick break down of what Plastik Wrap deals you can get today… all skirts will be between $35-100, men’s tops as low as $30, and sleeves and arm warmers starting at $10. Winter coats are all 30% off. Women’s pants between $50-100. All Embody in the shop will also be on sale at 25% off. All Missy Industry silver jewelry on sale at 20% off.
Read more about We Are Radar in our Brick and Mortar spotlight in the August/September 2012 Issue.

There are some brands, that no matter if you have been following them since the beginning, or if you’ve just recently stumbled upon them, you just love. Playdead Cult is one of those such brands. Stu and Bean, the duo behind Playdead, have been doing T-shirts and one-of-a-kind pieces since 1999. Infusing art and music into their clothing and keeping it out of the mainstream while still being relevant. The Drum’s T-Shirt, both for men and women, is a fun design we’re digging for its simple, yet definitive style artwork by co-owner Stu. It wraps up a love for the local music scene and our love of something a little abnormal. You can find this T and much more at the boutique located in Kensington Market, make sure to say hi, as most likely Bean or Stu themselves will be at the counter.
The Drum’s T-Shirt is available online for $25 at www.playdeadcult.com.

Toronto ON, April 24-28 - |FAT| or Toronto Arts & Fashion Week is just around the corner! This is an event not to miss, many of Toronto’s best alternative fashion designers are showing their latest collections. It is a chance to see some of the best alternative fashion in a full production runway show. In addition to runway shows, there are performances, photography exhibits, and videos on display.
Some of the alternative fashion designers showing this year are Asphyxia, Victory & Vice, House of Etiquette, Cinched Tight Corsets, Starkers Corsetry, Pippa Latex, Artifice Clothing, and Dystropolis.
This year |FAT| comes to life at a new location, a former industrial warehouse located at 213 Sterling Road, Toronto’s new up‐and‐coming arts and design district. The 2012 theme is fashionSCAPES and it mirrors the concept of landscapes: unique, seasonal, and ever changing. Each night a different sub‐theme will be explored around the ideas of land, city, body and future.
Advance tickets are $30 for a day pass and $75 for a week pass. One day passes are available at the door for $35. Auxiliary Magazine will be attending |FAT| this year as we have the past few years. Look out for coverage of the event on our website and in the next issue!

To purchase tickets and for more information go to www.fashionarttoronto.ca.

Toronto ON, March 20 - Toronto based fashion designer known for their sophisticated cyber wears, Plastik Wrap is hosting their spring edition of The Bazaar of the Bizarre in Toronto this weekend. The Bazaar of the Bizarre is sort of like a craft show but the way you’ve always dreamed one could be with unique and alternative vendors, from artists, to craftsman, to fashion designers, and more. The spring editions, such as this one, are circus sideshow themed (in fall they offer a Halloween themed edition).
Some of the vendors this year include Plastik Wrap and BitchCraft of course, Fashion Whore, Dark Destiny Designs, Clockwork Zero, and more. You can view a full list of vendors HERE.
I attended last year’s spring Bazaar and it is a great event, not to miss! You can pick up all sorts fun stuff for yourself or it really makes a great place to shop for unique gifts. Last year I purchased a handsome zombie velvet throw pillow from Sew Scary (also vending this year) as part of a wedding gift, and the bride and groom loved it! (I’ve seen a sneaky photo from the bride of her husband cuddling the pillow in his sleep to prove it.)

Toronto ON, November 6 – I recently attended IMATS in Toronto for Auxiliary Magazine. For those of you who are unfamiliar, IMATS is a makeup trade show for makeup artists, models, and photographers. I’ve been to IMATS before and I have to say that 2010 has been the best! This year was very organized, a lot of exhibitors, and not to mention, a great Alice In Wonderland themed runway show. I was very impressed with the number of exhibitors and deals that were available! Some companies in attendance were Yaby, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, Naked Cosmetics, Crown Brush, Kryolan, and Make Up For Ever, just to name a few.

I only attended on Saturday. I got there around 11:30am and already the place was jam packed full of eager artists ready to learn, buy, and see this wonderful trade show. It was very exciting to see some of the speakers and educators who attended, such as Tom Savini, Kandee Johnson, Eve Pearl, and EnKore Makeup’s Koren Zander. I spent a lot of time at the OCC (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics) booth, and in my opinion, they were one of the best exhibitors there. I got a lot of their wonderful Lip Tars (check out Purple Reign featuring OCC’s Lip Tar in the Oct/Nov 2010 Issue) some nail polish, and a few loose color concentrates. They are just amazing and I couldn’t thank them enough for the samples they gave us! I really appreciate it! I also spent a lot of time at the Yaby, Kryolan, Make Up For Ever, and Temptu exhibits.
