New York NY, January 17 – Arden Leigh, author of the book The New Rules of Attraction and our Ask Arden relationship advice columnist, has brought her power and beauty to the world of music! Her new band Arden and the Wolves hit the stage for the first time at RBar on Bowery in NYC on January 17th. Her stage presence was enthralling. The best thing besides the music is the band’s look, Arden is very fair, like a Snow White, and her band members are very rock and rough (I mean rough in a good way boys!). Band members include lead guitar Gabe Mera, rhythm guitar Mick Royale, bass Percy Trayanov, and drums Matt James.

Arden Leigh took a few minutes to answer our questions!

What made you want to start singing?
Arden Leigh : I can remember wanting to sing for as long as I’ve been alive. I would sing at recess in school and the other kids would tell me to shut up. I spent most of my adolescence and early adulthood singing in theater, but that got old. I started writing acoustic singer/songwriter stuff in my early 20s, and then later decided I wanted to take advantage of my higher range. Indie pop rock bands (Paramore, Anberlin, The Classic Crime) have always been the kind of music that gets under my skin, and that’s what I wanted to put out there.

in attendance : Icon of Coil at Cybertron

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

New York NY, September 8 – Jet Berelson founder of Vampire Freaks can put together a show like no other. Icon of Coil was insanely at it’s finest. The opening band [:SITD:] started to get things going with an amazing energetic set, followed by Icon of Coil amping up the crowd even more. Andy LaPlegua was all over the stage at Gramercy Theatre. When I spoke with him he told me, “his fans mean everything to him.” It was obvious this night as he smiled at his fans and made sure to hit every point of the stage where people could see him. In my opinion, he is a very talented, nice musician, and worth going to see at any show by his many bands: Icon of Coil, Combichrist, Panzer AG.

This night was also one to celebrate Vampire Freak’s own Annabel Fagan’s birthday. This had to have been her best birthday to date as her and Icon of Coil sat in the back and had some birthday cake together.

All in all it was a perfect night.

in attendance : Faderhead at Cybertron

Monday, April 30th, 2012

New York NY, March 31Faderhead has kick started their new album The World of Faderhead which was released March 30th, 2012 with a tour that started on March 20th and ended April 3rd. The band is somewhat new to the music scene only having about six years under their belt but has already made their name with five albums not including their new one. Faderhead has had club hits such as “TZDV” ( from album FH3) and Dirtygrrrls/Dirtybois (from album FH2), which are still playing in clubs today.

While playing at Cybertron in New York City on March 31st put on by Vampire Freaks, Faderhead played their club hits along with some new songs. They also covered Justin Timberlake’s “Sexy Back”. The crowd was pumped up as Faderhead jumped on stage to their electro stompy music. The band is very connected getting low on stage to become face to face with fans.

As for the whole night it was a blast and was full of people. Once again Jet Berelson owner of Vampire Freaks has put on an amazing event and has many more to come!

upcoming : Snow White a solo exhibition by Michael Mararian

Friday, February 18th, 2011

New York NY, February 19

Opening tomorrow, February 19th at Last Rites Gallery in Manhattan is Michael Mararian’s solo exhibition entitled Snow White. Famous tattoo artist Paul Booth opened Last Rites Gallery in 2008 and it has become a première gallery for art with a darker vibe and a haven for artists who prefer to explore the ominous, uncomfortable, and eccentric in their work.  If you are in the New York City area, this is a show not to miss!  Auxiliary featured Mararian in the October/November 2010 Issue.

left “Snow White” . right “Doc”

Mararian reveals his technique as, “hand drawn in various paint, dry-brush and ink forms, crudely scratched at times for a gritty, textured aesthetic. He is inspired by new and old journalistic-style photography, vintage graphics, cabinet cards, as well as retro advertisements and post mortem photography.”  Mararian clearly defines his intent as, “touching upon such topics as gross consumerism, school violence, teenage disappointments, pressures and the slowly growing social isolation that are part of our childhood and adult culture. The use of contradiction is an integral part of my work to magnify the absurdity of any given situation and draw a conflicting reaction from the viewer.” What can, on one level, be construed as melancholy and cruel, can alternately be viewed as amusing, or even charming. Mararian enjoys letting his audience decide.

A graduate of the Art and Theater program at the University of Bridgeport. His work has previously been shown at various galleries around the world. Originally from Andover, Massachusetts, Michael currently lives and works from his studios in Brooklyn and Buffalo, New York.

The show will run until March 19th, the opening is tomorrow.
