You should be done with your holiday shopping by now, so it’s time to get something for yourself. And if you’re not done shopping… than all the more reason you’ll need to turn your attention inwards. Pick up a copy of Arden Leigh’s brand new and first book, The New Rules of Attraction, and between holiday parties this weekend and next use it to kick back, relax, and focus on you. Arden Leigh is a fresh voice on women’s dating and relationship strategies with experience in neurolinguistic programming, psychology, pickup artistry, and the fetish industry, and a long time contributor to Auxiliary Magazine. But her writing is on more than just dating and seduction, underlying that, it is about being the person you want to be, strong, confident, and able to get what you want. For a taste of what this book has to offer check out her advice column in Auxiliary Magazine, “Ask Arden”, or her blog “A Weapon of Mass Seduction”.
The New Rules of Attraction is available online for $15 at www.amazon.com.
The futuristic and campy movie, The Fifth Element, may be best known for the character Leeloo, played by actress Milla Jovovich. While most of us may not remember most of the plot or even the other actors in the movie, we do remember Leeloo’s white PVC banded outfit that I’m sure made millions drool. Well, Artifice Clothing has infused their knowledge of PVC costuming into the Cyber PVC Leeloo Costume, available in a variety of colors including white, black, pink, and yellow. Not only would this make a great costume for the Halloween season, it’s a great piece for cosplay events, photoshoots, or fetish events.
From the Industrial Vice Division, Lip Service gives you the Pray To Me dress, in the “Looks That Kill” style group. Even though the Pray To Me dress is not being featured as a costume on their website, I would recommend this awesome nun look for Halloween. If you want to give the costume a creative twist, pair the nun outfit with some zombie make up for a ghoulish alternative.
The current June/July Issue features an interview with the multi-talented Amelia Arsenic, best known as a member of Angelspit and for her blog DestroyX.com. She has just released her new line of hand screened shirts and prints named Crime and Punishment for her A for Arsenic line. “Inspired by vintage fetish magazines, the drama of the silent screen, and a dash of murder. The imagery combines film noir inspired bondage portraiture with monochromatic graphic interventions.” This tank is perfect for the summer heat but will transition nicely for fall when paired with a blazer or long cardigan. Act fast, each design from this line has a limited run of 50.
The Ladies Black Blindfold Tank by A for Arsenic is available online at www.aisforarsenic.com.
My first encounter with House of Etiquette, a new Canadian latex design company founded in 2009, was at the third day of FAT and I was highly impressed! House of Etiquette designs are able to invoke both a classic fetish latex feel and a new, innovative high fashion feel at the same time. A bright red latex halter top bodysuit might seem tired and tacky, but here it is made classic, refined with black trim along the seams and a bold black strap waist cincher. Even the standard latex color palate is made more refined when the purple is metallic, the black is transparent, and the white has a floral print. This collection brings sophistication and fashion to latex but keeps it sexy, these pieces could pair nicely with non-latex garments for a night out but would also look authentic at a fetish event or party. I’m keeping a close eye on House of Etiquette!
I guess you get two music videos today! A new video from Lady Gaga just went live and it’s filled with more imagery I love. Perhaps you could argue that Lady Gaga isn’t doing anything artists before her haven’t done, but the fact that she is mainstream, gets played on easy listening/variety radio, and the masses are eating it up with all the controversial material included is a feat in its self. Anything that may sway trends in the direction of aesthetics I enjoy is fine by me!
The tone for Artifice’s collection was set with music that was a refreshing change from the typical music one would expect to hear at a runway fashion show, no beat just crescendoing waves and eerie whispering, glitchy babble. It was fetish fashion meets medical oddities with a touch of insane asylum horror. It was more than a collection, it was a glimpse at an artist’s vision. The audience was in awe while watching a model very slowly hobble down the runway in ballet fetish shoes with crutches, two models walk strapped together as twins, and metal blades crafted into angle wings emerge from the final model’s back as she posed at the foot of the runway. The pvc appeared masterfully crafted when viewed on the runway, one can only hope that items purchased from this collection are given the same attention, as all of Artifice’s designs are handcrafted. The exaggerated silhouettes created by structured shrugs and skirts made this another trend conscious collection.
