on + on + on + on
Orbital‘s going on tour again! Well, perhaps it’s only a couple of reunion shows and festival appearances, but for me, and thousands of fans or “ravers”, that’s simply amazing.
Personally, these two guys really represented a turning point in electronica for me in the late 90s as I was was ripped away from the industrial scene, ears first, by a reworking of “Satan” and then lulled into relative submission by the ethereal hauntings of “Halcyon” and “Belfast” and before I knew it, I’d been converted. At that time, I simply couldn’t get away from them… my housemate played Sniverlization constantly, their music was on the Spawn, Pi, and The Saint soundtracks, and they appeared in just about every techno compilation I saw on the shelves, heard on the radio, or played in my not-in-the-know friend’s cars.
And then, I simply burnt out. We all do, I mean I played “Funny Break (Plump DJ’s remix)” about a thousand times between parties and practice. Orbital did as well, burnt out that is, in 2004.
However, I’m happy to inform you that they’ve decided to reunite for a quick minute, and their confirmed 2009 festival appearances include appearances at The Big Chill (August 8), RockNess (June 13), and Global Gathering (July 24-25). They’ll be following up these performances with a couple of their own shows later in September. Unfortunately, All these shows are on the other side of the pond… but if you’re a fan. Well, you get the idea.
