Kinetik Festival 2011 : day 1

Sunday, August 14th, 2011

Rumors and whispers of Kinetik 2012 are starting.  It sounds promising that one of the largest industrial/EBM/electro/noise music festivals in North America (held in Montreal, Canada) will be happening again for a 5th year, most likely in May the weekend of Canada’s Victoria Day holiday.  For the 2011 edition they moved the venue from Usine C to Metropolis (with one day at Club Soda).  The general consensus of attendees during the festival was that the move was a good one.  Kinetik Festival 2011 was a great time for us, Auxiliary Magazine had a vendor table, the bands playing put on impressive performances, and we loved the new venue.  Enjoy some photos from this year’s event and keep hopeful and your ears open that 2012 will be a go.

upcoming : Vans Warped Tour 2011

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

June 24th to August 14th – Vans Warp Tour ’11 starts this Friday in Dallas and with a slew of dates around the country (USA) it should be stopping close to wherever you are. This year features the usual crap load of  bands with the main stage being reserved for; The Devil Wears Prada, Asking Alexandriam, 3OH!3, Gym Class Heroes, Less Than Jake, Against Me!, Attack Attack!, Paramore, Pepper, A Day To Remember, August Burn Red, Jack’s Mannequin, and D.R.U.G.S. If you are in a band and want to play main stage of Warped Tour, I suggest changing your name to start with the letter A.

Now it’s time for Grandpa here to tell you a story from back in the day. The year was 1995, I was 15 or 16, math is hard at my old age, and there was this sweet punk rock festival coming to my home town of Buffalo. The bands like Quicksand, L7, Wizo and others I can’t remember, rocked hard and wound all the kids up to hyperactive levels. Then it rained and the field where the stages were turned to mud. Shortly after there was no grass to be seen a band called Sublime went on. They sucked and as a way of showing their opinion, a bunch of hooligans threw mud at the band and started booing, Sublime quickly turned away and went off stage and the crowd went nuts!

upcoming : The Bazaar of the Bizarre

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Toronto ON, March 20 -  Toronto based fashion designer known for their sophisticated cyber wears, Plastik Wrap is hosting their spring edition of The Bazaar of the Bizarre in Toronto this weekend.  The Bazaar of the Bizarre is sort of like a craft show but the way you’ve always dreamed one could be with unique and alternative vendors, from artists, to craftsman, to fashion designers, and more.  The spring editions, such as this one, are circus sideshow themed (in fall they offer a Halloween themed edition).

Some of the vendors this year include Plastik Wrap and BitchCraft of course, Fashion Whore, Dark Destiny Designs, Clockwork Zero, and more.  You can view a full list of vendors HERE.

I attended last year’s spring Bazaar and it is a great event, not to miss!  You can pick up all sorts fun stuff  for yourself or it really makes a great place to shop for unique gifts. Last year I purchased a handsome zombie velvet throw pillow from Sew Scary (also vending this year) as part of a wedding gift, and the bride and groom loved it!  (I’ve seen a sneaky photo from the bride of her husband cuddling the pillow in his sleep to prove it.)
