on this day : Siouxsie and the Banshees release Peepshow – September 5, 1988

It took nine albums for the iconic queen of British punk and goth to break into America, but with Peepshow Siouxsie and the Banshees finally cracked the Billboard Top 100 and MTV with the single “Peek-a-boo”. The fact that their breakthrough hit was based around an accordion hook is a fine reminder that the Banshees never settled for a purely gothic rock sound. The accompanying Peepshow tour hit theaters across North America and was full-on cabaret fantasy with Siouxsie at her theatrical best. Where’d you get those eyes, indeed!
